A family-run counter on Steindamm since 1999
AGw Allgemeine Geldwechsel Förster GmbH opened its doors on Steindamm in 1999, in a neighbourhood known for its mix of travellers, commuters, and long-standing local businesses. Over the years the branch has stayed in the same spot, building a routine of straightforward, face-to-face service.
We are a single-branch business rather than a large chain. That keeps things simple: the person behind the counter is the person who can answer your questions, explain a rate, or point you to the right form for a transfer.
This website exists to describe that service clearly before you visit — it is not a portal for booking, paying, or transferring funds online.
Values we try to hold to at the counter
Transparency
Rates and fees are displayed on our in-branch board and repeated verbally before you agree to anything, in whichever of our three languages suits you best.
Personal service
We are a small team who get to know regular customers. Questions are welcomed, and no one is rushed through a transaction.
Careful compliance
As a currency exchange business operating in Germany, we follow applicable identification and record-keeping requirements for exchange and transfer services.
What actually happens when you visit
Identification
For transfers and larger exchanges, German and EU regulations require us to check identification. Our staff can tell you in advance what to bring.
Rate confirmation
The rate on our board is indicative. You'll always see the exact amount you'll receive or pay before completing a transaction at the counter.
Receipt & records
Every completed exchange or transfer comes with a printed receipt, and records are kept in line with German financial regulations.
